Grace Hughes was born in 1911 near Lime Springs, Iowa. She graduated from Lime Springs High School and went to beauty college. She had a beauty shop in her home until she was in her 80s. When Miss Hughes died on April 29th, 2004, it was learned she had left a generous gift to the community of Lime Springs. Miss Hughes established a trust to disperse funds on an annual basis. A three-member board and an estate administrator were appointed. Through this legacy, she (Miss Hughes) will continue to influence for the good of the town with which she cared so much. While all applications will be considered, per Miss Hughes’ request, primary consideration of distributions will be directed to:
1) Dollars for Scholars in the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District
2) Lime Springs Cemetery Association
3) Dr. Robert Schuller Ministries
4) Lime Springs Methodist Church
5) Town of Lime Springs, Iowa
6) any other tax-exempt beneficiaries which have a similar purpose to the preceding.
